The Piling Protection Wrapping Process

Under Water Inspection.

What you see is not always what you get - the real damage may be well below the waterline so an under water inspection is required. Our dive team goes well below the surface and inspects the piling all the way down to the bottom - only then can we know if your pilings are in need for protection - or repair using our SnapJacket method - or worse... need to be replaced. Once your pilings have been wrapped rest assured that you have just increased the life expectancy of your pilings by 8 to 12 years,

Growth Removal.
Prior to wrapping, we remove all barnacles and oysters until the entire surface of the pole is smooth. The removal process consists of scraping - - chipping - hammering and pressure cleaning - till the entire piling is cleaned from sea floor to directly under the main structural support. Pilings that are covered in barnacles and oysters will need to be scrubbed free of growth. This will allow the wrap to form a tight seal around the pole.

Layer ONE of Our Piling Wrap System - Soft Stretch Wrap.
We first wrap the piling with Liner industrial grade stretch wrap. We start this step well above the high tide line, wrap down to the bottom, and then back to our starting point. This makes for a strong 2 layer seal eliminating all shipworms inside the piling. This Industrial grade clear wrap eradicates all shipworms inside the piling by eliminating their oxygen supply - and prevents any new shipworms from entering the piling.

Layer TWO of Our Piling Wrap System - Hard Wrap.
This is our primary protection wrap. In this step we cover the piling in a polyethylene sheeting - which will protect the stretch wrap and prevent anymore shipworms from entering the pole. The protective wrap will be dug six to ten inches below the sea-floor to prevent anything to enter from below and into the pile wrap.

Securing the Piling Protection Wrap Layer.
To secure the primary wrap layer we use 1-1/4” stainless steel ring shank nails - with approximately 2” spacing between each. Stainless steel is designed for the marine environment and will not break down and rust like ordinary galvanized steel nails or screws.
